I joined Talice straight out of school and they gave me a great start in my career. The management really lead from the fron, going out with you and giving you the confidence to handle whatever the job throws at you. I did a range of really interesting work, from crowd control at large events, to cash-in-transit work which required additional firearms training.

The skills and experience I gained really helped me get a job as a prison guard with NT Correctional Services. They told me they like to hire former security guards, especially ones who've worked within the NT and have an insight into the culture and issues we face up here.

LIFESTYLE BENEFITS

Endless space and culture to explore. A tight-knit community to come home to.

With its rich cultural history, rugged natural beauty, plenty to do, and comfortable small-town feel, you and your family will find lots to love in Central Australia.

Places of interest

Located an easy drive or bike ride from town, the original telegraph station building from 1872 offers a fascinating look into the area’s settler history. Enjoy a picnic, a stroll around the reserve, or hit the mountain bike trails for a more active option.

A lush green oasis amid the red desert sands, set against the stunning backdrop of the MacDonnell Ranges. With lawn bowls, a bar and restaurant, you don’t have to own a set of clubs to enjoy the charms of Australia’s best desert golf course.

Home to a collection of over 1,000 artworks including traditional Indigenous piece and modern Australian works, as well as live theatre performances and a movie cinema, Araluen Arts Centre showcases the best culture and performances from Central Australia and beyond.

There's lots to do within Alice Springs and surrounding areas. I enjoy going camping with friends, hiking, mountain biking, visiting local waterholes and weekend trips to Uluru, or weeklong holidays in Darwin. In order to really experience the NT and see all that it has to offer, it requires you live and breathe it. There's so much to do and see, you couldn't possibly see it all while visiting on holiday.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Find out how a security career in Central Australia will help more than just your bank balance.

There’s a few reasons. First, we have heaps of work on offer because our companies have major contracts with government and businesses. Also, the issues with crime and antisocial behaviour mean more guards are needed compared to other places. As a result, we can offer the sorts of big hours you will struggle to get in major Australian cities.

Plus, we always pay the correct entitlements and penalties required by law, where some companies might not always do the right thing (e.g. offer to pay a flat rate cash-in-hand).

Absolutely. Many of our former guards have found work as police or prison guards. Security work requires a lot of similar skills and involves many of the same tasks as law enforcement. In fact, as a security guard you will often be the actual first responder on the scene, arriving even before the police or other emergency services personnel.

Also, having experience in a challenging environment like Alice Springs is extra helpful because it shows you don’t shy away from a challenge. Plus, if you go on to look for work with NT Police or Correctional Services NT, local experience and knowledge of culture is highly regarded.
